A flip-flop shop

What’s this?

In Australia we call these thongs.  You might call them flip-flops (a delightfully descriptive name I think, and one that sounds like summer to me!)  if you’re American or jandals if you’re a New Zealander.  In India you’d call them hawai chappal. Chappal means slipper in Hindi and I can only presume that hawai means Hawaii. Am I right Hindi speakers?

Beautiful, thoughtful presentation of wares is everywhere in India – can you see in this photo how the vendor has carefully tucked the back end of the top chappal into the straps of the bottom one so that the end of the sole doesn’t show?

I’ve added to this colourful display with my own green sandals and some chipped pink nail polish.

Where’s this?
